Milena Stevens is the director of Art of Image. As a trainer, senior colour stylist and image consultant, she helps people not to become someone else, but to become more fully themselves. With knowledge, care and a sharp eye for colour and style, she strengthens their appearance and self-confidence.

In this interview, Milena talks about the moments when she feels at her strongest, the choices she is proud of, the women who inspire her and the challenge that has shaped her. Open, energetic and with a generous dose of humour. This is Milena. And yes: cheers. 🍷

When do you feel at your strongest?
When I’m giving training sessions in colour, style and make-up.
Which choices in your life make you proud? When I look at where I am now, I feel proud and happy. Very proud, actually. It’s the result of all the choices I’ve made so far. I try to enjoy life as much as possible — is that always the smartest choice? Maybe not. Do I regret it? Never. Cheers!
How do you motivate yourself on days when you’d rather stay under a blanket? Every morning I look forward to my first coffee and start the day on a positive note. There’s always something worth getting out of bed for.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received or given? Colour advice, of course!
If your bag could talk, what would it say about you? She sometimes lets me get too heavy… but she never lets me fall.
Which woman inspires you? I have four of them — all entrepreneurs and all mothers, who met at our children’s swimming lessons. The “zwemmoeders,” with whom I’ve shared a lot of wine and wisdom. Hopefully many more evenings together are still to come.
What has been the biggest challenge in your life, and how did you deal with it? The unexpected passing of my mother, who was also the founder of Art of Image. Continuing and carrying forward our life’s project without her was the hardest, but also the most honourable challenge. Art of Image continues to evolve, and so do I. Our core remains the same: the power of colour.“Don’t dream your life, live your dream.”

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us? I have so much admiration for Esther and Jolanda. With passion and enthusiasm, you put your shoulders to the wheel every single day, resulting in a beautiful brand. Proud of my friends! Got inspired? We'd love to hear your story and feature it.
